Criminal Justice

RiseUp & ReClaim

Diagnosed with ADHD, no qualifications from school but holding a deep sense of lack of self worth and isolation. Branded a criminal before committing any offence; becoming a victim, and then a perpetrator, of knife crime. Anger now channelled to fight against any form of authority. And now left to face down their own mortality from behind bars...

Where have you heard these types of stories before?

Fast forward two decades...

They now boast a 1st Class degree, are an award winning author and playwright, as well as a proud parent and partner. RiseUp is taking this message directly onto the front line to those facing a similar uncertainty in their fate.

This transformative journey began with four small words:

“Where are you going?”

That question changed everything.
They couldn’t answer it.

In a short time we have gained a cutting edge reputation for a unique, innovative and professional approach that has led to recommendations and praise from prisons throughout the UK as well as Her Majesty’s Prison & Probation Service (HMPPS), several Community Rehabilitation Companies and many 3rd sector organisations.

The skills developed on a RiseUp programme can be life changing. We know this because they changed our lives as well as many others.

Our bespoke prison programme was developed using a holistic strength based approach. This helps to understand the fundamentals that drive each and every one of us in our daily lives and acts as an anchor to the methodology of our work, a methodology that puts the individual at the heart of the programme.

Using a variety of creative arts including rap, poetry, creative writing, drama and classical music blended with therapeutic models from Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis.

We inspire change.

This approach sees prisoners develop their own understanding of themselves and the world around them, how their mind and emotions work, how this affects them physically and how it’s related to behaviour.

An individual on a RiseUp course will have their values and beliefs challenged while developing a strong sense of self knowledge, self-efficacy, resilience and importantly, a real sense of purpose required for successful rehabilitation and reintegration. It teaches participants how to avoid conflict situations, reduce stress, anger and violence and how to build positive and lasting relationships.

Ultimately we see a transition from a present state of being to a desired state of being. A probation service staff member described the results as “Like alchemy”.

This 12 session programme offers individuals from all demographics; regardless of race, gender, age or sexual orientation, the best possible understanding of themselves and their interactions with others while providing the tools to create pathways to positive outcomes.

We have a track record of engaging those with complex needs and the hardest to reach, as well as engaging with individuals that regularly attend educational and creative classes regardless of sentence length.

For in custody provision, RiseUp & ReClaim can be engaged via the Prison Education Dynamic Purchasing System (PEDPS). We can also design programmes to work around existing educational provision or co-design courses to suit specific regimes or cohorts.

We have extensive experience of delivering within prisons and all of our core delivery team are fully vetted.

RiseUp & ReClaim can also be delivered within a community setting for National Probation Service and Community Rehabilitation Companies.

“Ideas by themselves cannot produce change of being; your effort must go in the right direction, and one must correspond to the other.”
